The Underdogs of Funk are bringing irresistible rhythm and soulful sophistication to the forefront with their latest single, ‘Karma on Speed Dial’. Blending the infectious spirit of classic funk with a contemporary musical sensibility, the track delivers a feel-good listening experience that is impossible to ignore.
From the opening moments, the song establishes its identity through a lively beat and distinctive keyboard arrangements that immediately capture the ear. There is a wonderful sense of movement throughout the production, with the drums providing a steady, engaging pulse while the keys add a rich, retro-inspired flavour. Together, these elements create a groove that feels natural, energetic and effortlessly inviting.
The vocal performance adds another dimension to the track. Smooth, melodic and full of character, it carries echoes of the golden age of Motown, bringing warmth and soulful expression to the modern arrangement. Rather than overpowering the instrumental, the vocals complement the rhythm, allowing each component to contribute to the song’s overall appeal.
One of the single’s strongest qualities is its balance between nostalgia and contemporary style. The Underdogs of Funk draw on the timeless ingredients of great funk music, including infectious rhythms, memorable melodies and an unmistakable sense of swing, while giving the material a polished finish suited to modern listeners.
‘Karma on Speed Dial’ would fit comfortably into a lively party playlist, a DJ set built around feel-good grooves or a soundtrack for a long summer evening. It has the energy to encourage dancing but enough melodic charm to reward listeners who prefer to sit back and appreciate the musicianship.
With its smooth vocals, colourful keyboard work and infectious rhythmic foundation, ‘Karma on Speed Dial’ is a confident celebration of funk and soul. The Underdogs of Funk demonstrate that music built around a great groove never goes out of fashion, delivering a single that is both entertaining and stylish.
